State Representative Arciero Honors Four Westford Girls Scouts Aiming To Make Safer Roads and Sidewalks for Pedestrians

WESTFORD — State Representative James Arciero recently recognized and awarded House citations to four Westford Girl Scouts looking to make the roads and sidewalks safer for pedestrians.
Representative Arciero joined Officer Paul Selfridge to honor this year’s Silver Award recipients from Troop 86145 — Mary Caroline Callaghan, Aubrie Rose, Alexandria Nolan and Emma Nagle — who created a program, Westford Road Scholars, that provided gift cards and award certificates to the Westford Police for distribution to students which officers spotted wearing helmets, using crosswalks, and biking and walking on the correct side of the road.
Troop 86145 Leader Sarah Nolan said the four ninth graders organized and planned the course during the previous 18 months and coordinated the program alongside Westford Police to reward students for safe biking and pedestrian behavior while fostering positive relationships between the local police department and Westford youth. The Silver Award is the second-highest honor in Girl Scouting.
“I am very proud of Mary Caroline, Aubrie, Alexandria and Emma for committing to a project that promotes safety and generates positivity towards using roads, sidewalks and bike lanes correctly,” Representative Arciero said. “Public safety, especially for students and young people, is important and vital to make Westford a safer community.”
Representative Arciero and Officer Selfridge presented the citations on Sunday at the Westford Police Station to mark the auspicious occasion, where they were joined by many friends and family members of the recipients.
