WESTFORD, MA - State Representative James Arciero announced that the Town of Westford has been awarded more than $1.2 million in funding through three competitive grant programs administered by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT). The awards were announced as part of MassDOT's inaugural Grant Central Fully Integrated Application (FIA) program, which distributed over $85.5 million statewide to support local transportation and infrastructure improvements.

Westford secured funding through the Community Culvert Program, the Municipal Small Bridge Program, and the Unpaved Roads Program, helping advance critical local projects that will improve public safety, strengthen infrastructure, and enhance climate resiliency.

The awards include:

  • $894,750 through the Community Culvert Program for construction funding to modernize and improve local culvert infrastructure.

  • $150,000 through the Municipal Small Bridge Program for design work related to an eligible local bridge project.

  • $195,000 through the Unpaved Roads Program for construction improvements to locally owned dirt and gravel roads.

"These investments will have a significant impact on Westford's infrastructure and long-term resilience, while reducing the financial burden on local taxpayers. I appreciate MassDOT's partnership and the efforts of our local officials in securing these important funds," said Representative Arciero.

The Community Culvert Program supports municipalities in modernizing, repairing, replacing, and improving the resiliency of culverts on local public ways. The Municipal Small Bridge Program assists cities and towns with the replacement, preservation, and rehabilitation of smaller bridges that are not eligible for federal aid programs. The Unpaved Roads Program provides funding for the maintenance, repair, and improvement of locally owned dirt and gravel roads.
