State Rep. Arciero appointed House Chair of Joint Committee on Transportation

BOSTON — State Rep. James Arciero on Friday announced he has been named the House Chair of the Joint Committee on Transportation.

“I am honored by the trust and confidence that Speaker Mariano has placed in me with this decision to appoint me Chair the Joint Committee on Transportation,” Chairman Arciero said in a news release. “Transportation is a vital component of every resident’s life here in Massachusetts, whether it be driving to work in the morning, taking mass transit to see friends and loved ones or utilizing bike paths and freeways to get outside. I look forward to continuing to serve the Massachusetts House of Representatives and the citizens of the Commonwealth with humility and integrity and look forward to getting to work on improving our state’s transportation systems.”

State Sen. Brendan P. Crighton, Lynn, will serve as the Senate Chair on the committee.

Representative Edward Phillips, of Sharon, will serve as the House Vice Chair. Representatives serving on the committee include Representatives Chris Hendricks, of New Bedford, James O’Day, of West Boylston, Jennifer Balinsky Armini, of Marblehead, Orlando Ramos, of Springfield, Steven Owens, of Watertown, Lindsay Sabadosa, of Northampton, James Hawkins, of Attleboro, David Paul Linsky, of Natick, David DeCoste, of Norwell, Norman Orral, of Lakeville, and John Marsi, of Dudley.

“I look forward to working with Senator Crighton and the rest of our diverse committee to tackle a variety of issues including highway, bicycle and public way infrastructure, MBTA efficiency, safety of our airports and seaports, climate change resilience and improving transit conditions for all drivers, pedestrians, transit riders and cyclists across the Commonwealth,” Arciero said.

The committee will work with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, state Department of Transportation and the 15 regional transit authorities regarding issues of traffic congestion, transit safety, transit services and climate resilience.
