WESTFORD – The following press release was shared by the office of Rep. James Arciero for publication.

State Representative James Arciero recently filed and passed a House budget amendment earmarking $25,000 in the Fiscal Year 2025 State Budget for the Hidden Battles Foundation of Greater Lowell.

“I am very pleased to be able to secure this important funding which will serve disabled veterans and other first responders in our community,” said Arciero, whose brother and brother-in-law served multiple tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. “The Hidden Battles Foundation does great work in serving and assisting veterans in our area who face many challenges following their heroic service in our military, especially those who saw combat during the many years of war in the Middle East.”

Hidden Battles is a nonprofit organization that strives to help veterans who have experienced combat and conflicts of war by offering mental health support and services.

In addition to active service military and retired veterans, Hidden Battle also assists firefighters, law enforcement, emergency medical services personnel, 911 dispatchers and nurses who are often on the forefront of difficult situations.

Through community-based and peer led activities providing counseling and treatment, Hidden Battles addresses depression, suicidal tendencies and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in this population.

Representative Arciero recently presented a ceremonial check to the group at an annual fundraising gala in Dracut. “Due to the incredible dedication of Representative James Arciero, we can significantly improve the mental well-being of our disabled veterans by offering them the care, community, and support necessary for empowerment and growth,” said Scott Hyder, Founder and President of the Hidden Battles Foundation.

“Our veterans are constantly seeking tasks and purposes. Our activities promote a positive mental outlook, and the funds secured through Rep. Arciero’s efforts will foster personal and community growth, ultimately saving lives,” Hyder added.

Following the tragic death of his brother, Nick, Mr. Hyder has worked closely with local and regional veterans and first-responder groups to help spread awareness and resources for those suffering from PTSD, depression and mental health struggles. Mr. Hyder, along with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, has helped raise over $250,000 to date for the cause.

“Every little bit helps these brave men and women who have served the public in a capacity greater than themselves, and now need our help as they face their own challenges. I am glad that the Commonwealth is able to give additional funding for the important work that this organization does in our community,” concluded Arciero.
