Since 2009, Representative Arciero has proudly served the 2nd Middlesex District. He has established collaborative partnerships with community organizations and passed critical legislation partnering with colleagues in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Jim’s leadership role within the community is demonstrated from multiple recognitions and awards he has had the honor of receiving. His leadership role within the Massachusetts House of Representatives has grown over the past 14 years and was particularly key while navigating the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic.

    2011 - Spirit of Compassion Award by CommunityVOICES for his child safety advocacy

    • Lead the passing of the Affordable Homes Act, the largest investment in housing in the history of the Commonwealth

    • Championed a mental health bill to include PTSD training curriculum for counselors at 29 public colleges and universities in Massachusetts to address the challenges of returning veterans entering higher education programs

    • Housing Chair of the Joint Committee on Housing during the Covid-19 pandemic, extending Chapter 257 guardrails so citizens in Massachusetts could be safely housed during the pandemic

    • As Housing Chair, helped facilitate close to $600 million state funding from the American Rescue Plan Act passed by United States Congress into housing programs including supportive housing, rental housing production, production through the Commonwealth Builder Program, first-time homeownership assistance and public housing maintenance

    • Created a Covid-19 vaccine site at Devens with Nashoba Valley legislators to increase access for Middlesex County residents

    • Supported and passed historic Student Opportunity Act updating and education funding formula to more accurately and fully reflect school district costs for the first time in nearly 30 years. Investing an additional $1.5 billion yearly for elementary and secondary education in the Commonwealth which provides vital funding to support smaller classes, improved programs, greater innovation and high-quality learning opportunities for students

    • Increased Regional School Transportation to $82.2 million to meet the challenges of busing students in large regional school systems, like Nashoba Valley Technical High School

    • Voted for historic levels of Local Aid/Chapter 70Funding to assist our school districts and communities in providing essential educational services for K-12 students. An increase of $495 million over last year for a total return of $5.99 billion to our local towns for educational funding

    • Fought for greater investments in Behavioral Health and Wrap Around Services, to fund additional school counselors and social workers for our students

    • Established Special Education Advisory Council (SEPAC) Day on the Hill for SEPAC to advocate for their students and families in Massachusetts

    • Funded $400 million in construction of a Soldiers Home for veterans in Holyoke

    • Funded $50,000 in renovations for Littleton World War I monument and Westlawn Cemetery veteran grave markers

    • Funded $75,000 for Westford Housing Authority buildings for WIFI upgrades for residents and new stove and kitchen appliances

    • Funded $25,000 in assistance for Chelmsford Senior Center Food Pantry

    • Filed and passed legislation to require Level 2 Sex Offenders to be listed online (2014)
